Christ in Majesty

This somewhat busy design puts Christ in a clipeus at the center of a jeweled cross whose four ends bear four smaller portraits in clipei. The one at the bottom features the Virgin Mary. The man portrayed on the right has the pointy beard and receding hairline that are usually unambiguous features of St. Paul. One would therefore expect the man on the left to be Peter, but he is quite unlike conventional representations of that saint. At the top is a figure with what I think may be wings.
Along the bottom margin of the apse are four more clipei. Only one of them is distinct enough for identification: the haloed ox to the right of Mary. This is the symbol of St. Luke, so it would seem that when all four clipei were new and clear they represented the four evangelists.
